Sensory Interventions

Sensory interventions involve the patient's sense of touch, taste, hearing, smell or sight, or some combination of these. Such interventions include

  • Music therapy

  • Light therapy

  • Pet therapy: allows patients in nursing homes, adult care facilities, hospitals, children's homes and even homebound individuals to receive the therapeutic effects of human-animal interaction. Pet Therapy is conducted almost exclusively by trained shelter volunteers, or Certified Recreational Therapists and all animals are approved prior to their visits.

  • Recreational activities

  • Massage therapy

  • White noise tapes of soothing sounds

  • Aromatherapy

  • Exercise

  • Sweet foods

Disclaimer: Always seek the advice of a physician or other health care provider when considering an intervention. Many of these interventions can only be done by trained professionals.
